I'm appaled at the Spanish spoken by journalists in Argentina, not only words are misused but new terms are invented by them, both derivatives of correct expressions as well as entirely new words - the latter is not that bad as languages are brought to life by the regular people and not academicians -. (e.g. si habría ido a casa no habría perdido, i/o si hubiese/hubiera ido a casa no habría perdido...) I really don't know if this is the result of the deterioration of our educational system, a desire to appear to speak "the people's language" or just plain ignorance.
The truth is I cringe every time I listen to these noveau vogue representatives graduated from some of the dozens of "Journalism Schools" that have erupted like mushrooms in a dark cellar. Does this happen in other countries? I suspect it does because air time is expensive both in radio and TV and these guys/dolls are forced to cramm a thousand words in a minute in order to save the time that will be sold to ad agencies. Is there a way to correct this? Do you know of a way to prevent children from learning a distorted version of their mother tongue? If you do, let me know, please. Thank you my friends.
